“As [Mancio’s] voice soars to paint precise arabesques in the air there’s a suggestion of Ella Fitzgerald  by way of Bebel Gilberto” – Metro

Salud! Tom Jobim by Bob Barkany

Salud! Tom Jobim is Georgia’s tribute to the remarkable Brazilian composer, singer, multi- instrumentalist and Bossa Nova maestro Antonio Carlos “Tom” Jobim

Together with co-leader – virtuoso reeds player  Mark Crooks (Ronnie Scott’s,The Lincoln Center NYC, BBC Proms/John Wilson Orchestra)  they recreate the hits ( Desafinado , Chega de Saudade, Corcovado and most famously The Girl from Ipanema) as well as lesser known gems with collaborators Elis Regina, Stan Getz, Frank SinatraJoao and Astrud Gilberto.

Along with singer/guitarist, João Gilberto, Jobim was the architect of the Bossa Nova movement which emerged in the 1950s and 1960s in response to the heavier, more melancholy Brazilian music of the time. His beautiful, bitter-sweet melodies evoke the sunshine and easy rhythm of life by the ocean in Brazil  combined with a jazz musician’s sense of harmony, the eloquence of George Gershwin and Irving Berlin and the sweep of Debussy, Chopin and Ravel.

This top flight band combine the passion and light-footed charm that beat at the heart of this timeless, all embracing music.
