London-based songbird, lyricist and activist Georgia Mancio teams up with pianist/composer Kate Williams for her seventh album, with songs old and new embracing themes from exodus and statelessness to the natural world, loss and hope. Arranged for trio and string quartet, and with the classical guitarist John Williams (Kate’s father) lending a crystalline touch to two tracks, compositions are multifaceted and surprising. Mancio is a long-time advocate for the rights of refugees: a trilogy of songs about children in the Calais Jungle, and the perils of their journey, find her in full, emotive voice.
