the story
The exquisite, globally acclaimed collaboration between multi-award-winning vocalist/lyricist, Georgia Mancio (Parliamentary Jazz Awards, Ian Shaw, BBC Proms), and double-Grammy-winning jazz pianist/composer, Alan Broadbent (Natalie Cole, Charlie Haden, Pat Metheny), is set to make new strides this spring, with the release of their third co-written album, A Story Left Untold.
This extraordinary new work, with songs across duo, trio, quartet and orchestral settings has received early critical acclaim, Jazz Views now describing them as “quite simply the most formidable songwriting partnership of the 21st century” .
Over the last 12 years, their performances have been lauded across Europe and the US for their quiet virtuosity: Alan’s dazzling pianism and improvisatory breadth, the perfect counterpart to Georgia’s exceptional story-telling and emotional depth. And their catalogue of 40+ songs has drawn comparisons to Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Joni Mitchell and Stephen Sondheim.
In 2017, they launched their first album of originals, Songbook, in two world-renowned jazz clubs: London’s Ronnie Scott’s (“unequivocally, one of the gigs of the year”, Jazzwise) and New York’s Dizzy’s Coca Cola, Jazz at Lincoln Center.
In 2021, their duo follow-up, Quiet Is The Star, was among the Arts Desk, Jazz Views and Jazzwise ‘Albums of The Year’, and released alongside their book of 33 works, The Songs of Alan Broadbent and Georgia Mancio.
In 2023, their 10th Anniversary Tour included a 3 night residency at the EFG London Jazz Festival. Other notable engagements have included the Krakow and Rochester International Jazz Festivals; Sage Gateshead and Pizza Express Jazz Club (U.K); Birdland (Germany); NOSPR (Poland); Kitano and Mezzrow (U.S).
Through journeys and resting places, childhood and old age, community and solitude: Broadbent and Mancio’s music remind us of both the fragility and resilience of the human spirit, at once profound and joyous, intimate and epic.
